PRENTISS RELEASES A 3 TRACK EP TO FINSIH 2022

BY IJR

As 2022 winds down to a close, Mississippi artist, Prentiss (@1prentiss) decides to give us one last gift to take with us into the new year in the form of his latest three track ep, “three twenty five”. Three twenty five is probably Prentiss’ most well-composed side project that he’s released this far, sounding very cohesive both sonically, and thematically in spirit. In the past I’ve reviewed the young creative’s side projects, and found most of them enjoyable in the way that they showcase his growth and improvements, and like I said previously, this is the first one that achieves what I feel like he’s been aiming towards over the last few attempts. The thing that sets this drop apart from the rest lies in the fact that Prentiss manages to sound his most sincere both tonally, and lyrically, delivering verses about heavier subjects such as an internal frustration, thoughts of suicide and abandonment in a way that doesn’t come off as ungenuine, or exaggerated. All over the project you can find Prentiss doing his thing over acoustic guitar, and the occasional synth generated bass line, or sample that adds to the overall atmosphere in a quality manner. My favorite track on this project has to be “Letter on my shelf” in which the production takes on the most life, blending that folk aesthetic, with a jersey club like drum pattern that somehow adds to the emotion. A perfect three track mini-project in my opinion which came as a delightful surprise. And those are my thoughts, happy holidays, and i’ll see you in the new year!
