BUILDING CONFIDENCE AS AN ARTIST
You know how they say that confidence is key? Well, for an artist, it's exactly that way and so much more, let me explain. You see when you’re constantly putting yourself out there, it’s easy to run into roadblocks, detractors, and any single person that’s just waiting for the opportunity to take the mirror and point it right back at you. So that’s exactly why it's important that we have something solid to fall back on if these bad things ever come our way. If you haven’t given this much though, I wanna try and put you on to the basics for confidence building online:
Have you built your brand?
Every artist needs a solid foundation, and having a strong brand or image is key. As an artist, who are you? What do you stand for? Regardless of what the answer might be, be sure it’s authentic, and serves as an extension of your personality. The idea is to be yourself to fullest, so as you grow as a person, your brand grows with you.
Do you love what you make?
If you focus on making what you love to hear, in a way that feels natural to you, then you’ll be just as confident in the music, as much as you are in your image, and that will bring you one step closer to becoming undeniably solid.
Do you present yourself as an artist?
Obviously I’m not saying that you should obnoxiously go around declaring to everyone you meet that you’re an artist, but I am saying that a confident artist doesn’t hide the fact that they are one. A confident artist is proud, and embracing. Even if you’re still learning the ropes, you can always express your appreciation for artistry and express that you’re giving it a shot. Fuck it, call it a hobby if you need to, but it’s imperative for you to feel confident about the art you make, even if it’s not that deep.
Remember, labels, agents, even fans love a confident artist with goals and methods to the madness. Confidence leads to a strong identity, and that leads to fans, streams, and hopefully even opportunity. Of course I only laid out three ideas, but this is meant to motivate you to ask how you can start being a more confident artist every day.
