CALCULATED GENIUS OR CORNY?
Using social media over the past week has honestly been one of my worst mistakes. I wish I joking…Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and even Facebook has been made impossible to enjoy, and all thanks to Drake and 21 Savage. Now unless you’ve been living under a rock or something, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you don’t, just know that 21 savage and Drake most recently linked up for their highly anticipated collab project, “Her loss”. Every single thing that Drake involves himself with tends to end with something memeable, as he just tends to say and do things that people find “out of pocket” for a rapper. Lately, though, it seems almost as if Drake is purposefully playing into the memes and jokes made around him, and honestly, it's kind of genius! You see, for years Drake had been going unintentionally viral over his lyrics and public interactions, so it seems he’s finally prepared to own his narrative and capitalize off of the jokes. You can start to tell that Drake is consciously creating these moments due to the way that he and Savage went about promoting their project, hilariously staging fake interviews, publicity stunts, and overall interesting moments. Staged moments, and petty drama aside, the funniest thing that’s come out of the album has got to be all the “zesty drake” moments, where drake says something “sus” and 21 Savage just goes along with it. I’m 100% convinced that Drake set these moments up with the intention of controversy, and unsurprisingly, it worked, Drake took hold of the things people use to make fun of him and used them to cash in. And that’s why I believe Drake is the calculated genius that he is.
