small artist saturday: what content should you be posting

If you’re reading this, you probably are trying to keep up with all these social medias, their algorithms and the type of content they want. With each new platform, it takes time to find out what works and what doesn’t but the common denominator is this, videos. As Instagram moves away from photo centric post, TikTok which is 99% videos (even the photos are in a video format) it seems like the answer to this question is simple. You should be posting videos.

I’m going to categorize this into 3 sub sections of videos

  1. Professional

  2. BTS

  3. Raw

And I’m going to break this down and explore each one just to give you a better understanding

PROFESSIONAL

This here is pretty simple. You professional video content will include Music videos, interviews, teaser videos and anything around that nature. This type of content is clear to the viewer that it took a team of videographers and editors to create and that it is meant to be clear and crips. While the quality of this is great, it’s always important to know how to handle this type of content posting. If you are consistently posting professional videos, you will not be able to come off as genuine as you could be with a healthy mix of all theee.

BTS

This is a great middle ground between raw and professional. A lot of clothing brands take this type of approach. With behind the scenes, you will be capturing not the main event, but the people who help create the main even and you will capture the natural environment of those “professional videos”. This lets the audience have sneak peak of your process and help them feel engulfed in the life of an artist. Maybe it’s a picture/video of you during a music video or talking to the people/directors. Whichever direction you decide to take, make sure you invite your followers with you.

RAW

This can be seen as a few different types of videos. Some rant type videos, day by day stuff or even some meme type videos too. These types do not have any it at least very minimal editing and are reminiscent of just sending videos to your friends. This allows your audicne to see how you are in a natural environment and allows them to see you are one of them. Maybe it’s a small video of your meal at that moment or a new thing you just bought. Raw content will always feel familiar and comforting

While all of these serve their part, the best way to incorporate them is by having a balance of all three type of video content.
