north carolina artist “lawsy” track “hotel” is a crazy vibe
One of my favorite new tracks lately is one that I’ve proudly come to discover thanks to the social media platform that is TikTok and its ability to blow up artists seemingly out of nowhere. This extremely viral song known as “Hotel” by North Carolina artist, Lawsy (@lawsymf) is one of the smoothest pluggnb songs I’ve ever heard, or as Lawsy would describe his music, “sexxnb”. I had seen him throw around the “sexxnb” label here and there on his socials, and admittedly, I didn’t get it at first, but upon first listen of Hotel, best believe I understood. Lawsy manages to deliver some honestly vulgar and somewhat crude lyrics, over a classy beat that sounds straight out of early 2000’s R&B music in ways that are just perfect if you ask me. Despite Lawsy making sexual references left and right throughout the song, he manages to deliver everything in a way that makes you almost charmed by the lyrics, in the strangest way possible. I remember wanting to be turned off by the track on first listen, but then my ears caught that catchy hook, and the most lowkey bassline + synth combo in the track’s production, and instantly knew that the song was going on the playlist.
