“HYPOCHONDRIAC”, AN AMAZING SHOWCASE FROM BRAKENCE

BY IJR

Hyperpop sensation Brakence (@brakence), has delivered his sophomore album “Hypochondriac,” the follow up to 2020’s “Punk2”. As was expected, Brakence has totally doubled down on the themes, production and vocal styles that he had previously established in his first album, as well as the most recent singles like “argyle” and “cbd,” which he manages to navigate and explore a little better this time around. In this project we get some of Brakence’s most effective work, as he delivers some truly impressive vocal performances, effortlessly breaking into falsettos and range full vocal deliveries that are well complemented by the tracks' engineering and production. And speaking of production, Hypochondriac hosts some of Brakence’s best production, often nearly outshining Brakence’s vocals which is more of a testament as to how good the production really is. Lyrically Brakence delves into familiar topics, with a handful of tracks delving into Brakence’s relationship with his newfound popularity, as well as his psyche, discussing his ego, selfish behaviors, as well as the occasional braggadocious bar here and there.  While I enjoyed most of the lyrical content on the project, I will say that it often comes off as shallow, and the self deprecation starts to get old at a certain point, but never enough to ruin the experience in the end. Finally, I’m glad we finally got to see what Brakence had been building towards through this project, nearly two years of singles and teases have finally amounted towards Hypochondriac, a well rounded, and technically impressive album!
