A LOOK AT TOMMY MAYHAMS' INFINITE SPACE
Infinite Space is the latest collaborative effort by recording artist Tommy Mayham (@tommymayham_) and producer Xander Beats (@prodxanderr). One of my favorite qualities on this record is the amount of energy brought in by both parties, as Xander’s production perfectly sets up an aggressive soundscape that Tommy manages to match fairly well. Focusing on the project’s production allows us to see how Xander uses a wide range of sounds, and styles to create some truly electrifying moments, such as the killer bassline on the project’s intro “GHOST,” or my personal favorite, “APPLAUSE”. On APPLAUSE, we get some of my favorite work both from a production, and artistic standpoint, as the duo, manages to create something that’s reminiscent of the upbeat energy found in bedroom pop music, and turn it up to 100 through the hard-hitting drums and vocal performance. Overall I think this project is a recommendable listen if you’re a fan of fun and energetic melodies, and truly dynamic production coming together in the form of a five-track project. All that being said, the project is obviously not without its flaws, ranging from what I would consider to be writing that’s on the weaker side, to vocal mixing that is inconsistent a few times in a noticeable way. Criticisms aside, I will definitely return to the project!
