PRENTISS TRIED AND SUCCEEDED WITH “I TRIED”

The great Prentiss (@1prentiss) delivers his most beautiful project yet with “i tried,” a ten track project with a bittersweet message at heart.

Following Prentiss and his blooming career evolve has been exciting. Watching this Kid go from blowing up thanks to an indie pop song, to charting on spotify playlists, and making his name known has been incredibly exciting, and this project almost feels like a celebration of exactly that. Despite this being a ten track project, not every song is a new one. Off the top we hear some of prentiss’ best music to date, with songs like “where it hurts,” “Seasons,” with Lil aaron, and of course the most recent, “So easily,” with Skaiwater. Singles aside, personally, this project’s stand out moments happen on “sky is falling,” and on “guitar man,” my two favorite tracks on the album as sky is falling features some of the prettiest vocal performances, and guitar man with its production. Not only would I consider these tracks to be my favorites, but I would say that they’re the most essential as well, as they proudly wear the project’s message of trying and failing. Through lyrics like “if life doesn’t matter, then screw it i had a great time,” Prentiss reveals that he might be getting tired of trying his hardest to live up to the standards and pressures of it all, despite his best efforts. And while I did greatly appreciate this project as a whole, I wouldn’t call it perfect, with some tracks feeling like they left something to be desired vocal performance wise, and even some feeling rather lengthy, but nothing to completely ruin the project for me. All things considered this was a satisfying update for Prentiss’ discography, and a really good project.
