Let's start with the basic's, who is Jericho and what does his music stand for?
Welp Jericho is someone who has many different forms as far as music goes honestly the many different flows an genres I’ve done in my short career let’s me know music for me is whatever I want it to be I’m not in a box right now nor have anyone trying to make me one dimensional or pulling the strings I know at some point I’ll have more hands in the cookie jar as far as my music goes but I won’t sign anything that doesn’t give me the creative freedom I would need to be Jericho at his best
With Atlanta being a very influential zone for music, has it shaped your sound in any way and is it easier to create connections there?
Honestly coming from South Jersey where I was raised adapting to the south was not easy at first I moved out to clay co in 2011 an hated ga I went back to New Jersey to finish high school then came back to atlanta for college I didn’t have alot of musically talented friends growing up so I wasn’t into the whole SoundCloud scene My Favorite artist at the time where Kanye Mac Miller linkin park Wiz An old travis Scott I was checking out new music on Youtube an heard artist like 6dogs Lil peep Og playboi carti wintertime lil soda boi & Oliver Francis down to Matt ox which gave me like a shock of hope I’ve been writing an freestyle since I was 10 years old I was 21 at the time but if it wasn’t for those artists I wouldn’t of thought someone like me had a platform to make music I went back to New Jersey recorded my first song not in key or the right bpm but I told myself once I hit this button an drop this I can never go back an I never did first song hit 1000 in a day I got tad spoiled early an already had 200+ Followers on SoundCloud from just rapping in high school Music wise I’m Influence more by sounds then cities but Atlanta has Introduce me to some of my best friends for life an people I’ll tell my kids about I may talk shit about it but Atl but it’s Home to me now One day I’ll be big in this city one day very soon.
Your latest project "Joshin Around" took a more slower route with more relaxed production and a heavy emphasis on the vocal aspect. Is this more of the lane you are wanting to focus on or is it just some experimentation while still trying to find a lane?
Joshin Around was more of a mix of my New Jersey an Atlanta sounds As I get older I wanna know that if you listen to ten jericho songs you’ll find atleast one song your gonna love honesty numbers wise it didn’t do good as a hyperpop or a trap tape would have done but mainstream wise I think a older Audience could enjoy that project I’ll never make the same project twice there won’t be a jericho project you hear an think its all the same kinda beats an flows naw I’ve found more of a sound you may hear once in the while but not everyone likes to eat the same-thing everyday some people like to try new foods but some people do just eat the same thing so it’s harder to feed those kinds listeners because they don’t wanna try anything new. My next two projects sound nothing like Joshin Around but it’s gonna catch more eyes in my opinion Joshin Around will have its flowers one day doe music wise it’s my the best project rn
When creating music, either full project or singles, do you go in with a certain goal or theme, or is it more organic and based off whatever the vibe is that day?
Most of my songs are honestly from the Scratch so everything is organic I don’t have anyone else writing or helping me write If I break up with a girl imma be in my bag for a good week if I find a girl imma have some lyrics about her I think for me right now music is me talking my shit because sometimes people won’t hear you out I can tell you Im that dude but for some reason when I say It in a tone over a beat people feel it more but player 3 an this untitled tape are my first two projects that have a full theme
Are there certain aspects in your everyday life that bring you inspiration wether it be where you are, people you know or simply things you have?
Hmmm welp honestly Relationships have helped me make some of my best music because it’s 100% how I’m feeling It’s weird because at one point people thought I was some lover boy when tbh I don’t be catching feelings for anyone an I dub an Ignore alot of woman lol but the ones I do let in sometimes may get to me which leads to y’all getting a fire song Also since I was 10 I’ve been told I can make it in music
Finally, what do you think the next steps for you are?
I think it’s time to be like rock lee an take off my training weights An finally gave my supporters the content an stuff they deserve I get asked about merchandise music videos an shows almost everyday I have my first big show on my birthday an that’s just the start of the many shows imma start doing I wanna give everyone high quality music videos which is why I don’t do alot of videos rn like videos that are just the artist jumping around outside is not something I want. i want movie vibes but gonna cost movie money so that will take time I’m gonna have some dope merchandise coming out this year or early next also I just wanna start showing everyone Jericho hasn’t even hit his prime yet music wise I think 2023 imma be a bigger underground name by 2024/2025 I’ll be a household name
