SLAYLOVERBOY CREATES AN OUT OF THIS WORLD VIBE

BY IJR

Lately I’ve been tapping in more and more to an artist by the name of Slayloverboy (@slayloverboy), a young creative who often takes on dark sounds, dark topics, and even darker visuals. Just yesterday Slay released his latest single, “seasonal depression,”  a track that really appealed to me in this time of year especially, as the top of the year can often be the heaviest time of the year, unfortunately leading to a (un)healthy amount of seasonal depression. Honestly though, this track really resonates with me through its writing, as Slay dives into the topic of feeling down daily, wanting to feel better, but being mentally unable to. Another reason that this song works so well for me is rooted in the way that the writing, vocal tone and production come together to embody a track that feels as  heavy as its subject matter. Speaking of production, producer Santana crafted a truly ethereal beat that slightly reminds me of Yung Lean’s classic “Ginseng strip 2002,” but that’s neither here nor there, this beat is immaculate for sure.
