A LOOK AT THE NEW SKRILLEX ALBUM
It’s been a crazy few days for the world of electronic music, thanks to the return in full force of one of the genre’s most innovative artists SKRILLEX. Now I should probably explain just why everyone is so hyped about this release…I mean wasn’t dubstep a trend in like 2011? No way anyone cares about all that anymore right? Well, you’d be correct to think so, even skrillex himself moved on from the style a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean he lost any relevance, quite the opposite actually. Over the years Skrillex played a part in a ton of major pop albums including the most recent beyonce album that swept the grammy awards. Anyway, this past Friday, after nearly ten years of nothing, Skrillex blessed the world with not one, but two albums. “Quest for fire” and “Don’t get too close” released in the span of two days, the former being 100% focused on Skrillex's signature aggressive style, and the latter having a focus on melody and emotion for the most part. While I think both of these albums are great in their own ways, I have tons to say about the more gentle “Don’t get too close,” an album that I cannot stop listening to. Highlights on this project include: Way back (with trippie redd and pinkpanthress), Selcta (with BEAM), real spring (with Bladee), and 3am (with Prentiss and Anthony Green). Oh man what a banger Selecta is with bass house vibes in full effect, especially through its bassy drop! Finally, my favorite moment on the entire project, 3am with Prentiss and Anthony Green. The collab I didn’t know I needed, with Prentiss really being the stand out artist, despite the fact that his vocals were recorded a few years ago in late 2020. I have a lot more thoughts on the latest skrillex projects that I want to get into soon, but for now we’ll leave it here. What did you think about this project?
