HOW A DELUXE ALBUM SHOULD BE: CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
By: IJR
Last night Tyler, the creator released the deluxe edition to his 2021 album “Call me if you get lost,” an album complete with highs, lows, but above everything, he gave us bars! The LA creative detailed in an exclusive interview with HOT 97 his desire to deliver a project that utilizes each one of his talents in a way that wasn’t able to execute in the past, all while setting his rapping abilities front and center. Call me if you get lost earned Tyler his second Grammy award ever, to which celebrated the remainder of the year by embarking on a world tour. At the very top of this past week, Tyler released a music video for a single titled “DOGTOOTH,” which came alongside an announcement for the “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: THE ESTATE SALE” deluxe album. On top of the original sixteen tracks that the album debuted with, this deluxe project adds eight brand new tracks that didn’t make the cut the first time around, and to be honest, they’re a whole lot of fun. Each new track sounds, and feels a little different from what was presented in the original, but not necessarily in the terms of production, or lyrical quality, I mean this is still Tyler mostly just flexing and barring out, but his demeanor feels like it's shifted. Though most of these songs were made prior to the original album’s release, they almost feel like Tyler taking a victory lap in the most fun way possible. Gone are the sad ballads about heartbreak, and instead we’re treated to narratives of acceptance, gratitude, and having a good time, over beats that are funky, soulful, and incredibly charming. This Deluxe is a great expansion, short, sweet and direct, so you should definitely give it a listen today!
