thankujonah shows his evolution with “naked”

I’m really excited to showcase today’s artist and track, not just because thankujonah (@thankujonah) is an artist that I'm super familiar with, but because today’s track really feels like a breath of fresh air for the artist. I’d honestly forgive you if you aren't too familiar with the young underground artist, because while you can easily find him on every social platform, his presence is a very elusive one for which you kinda have to want to keep up with in order to actually do so. As far as Jonah’s typical creative output or his “sound,” you can find the artist often singing or rapping over a multitude of styles, and I’d say that's to his benefit, because it’s honestly so hard to pin him down, or place any labels on the guy. I mean, one release you might hear him going absolutely bonkers over a plug beat, then the next could be indie rock, and so on and so forth.

“Naked,” sees Jonah right back into his bedroom pop bag, with the instrumentation presenting a down to earth soundscape that is as bright as it is colorful. Hearing Jonah in this style is really nothing new, as Jonah has a song or two that match the vibe that this song ultimately puts on, however I really enjoyed this song for the reason that it's a whole new take for the artist from a writing perspective. In a world that is ever so saturated by creatives and musicians, it’s often painfully easy to slip into writing mistakes that make your work feel vague, or generic, and it's such a detriment that artists don’t even know they’re doing it. I wanted to showcase “naked” today because not only is it a good sounding song, but because it's also a great example of what mature writing often looks like. In this song thankujonah tells the story of an evening spent with a romantic partner. Jonah successfully uses sensory language to relay every single plot point of the evening, essentially letting the listener better immerse themselves in the word picture that he paints. Using words like “cool drinks,” and “two floaties in the pool” allows you to mentally place yourself in each scene and almost even encourages you to fill in the details that the writer doesn't give you. I could gush about this writing style for longer but I'd rather also praise Jonah’s vocal performance, which I found to be colorful, upbeat, and enjoyable. It’s crazy how Jonah’s vocal timbre gives the chorus a way of standing out, as it almost draws from folk pop and other similar sounds. So to conclude my little essay, I implore you to give this song a listen using the link below!
