THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATING YOUR OWN COMMUNITY

As an artist myself, I believe we’ve all had this thought before: “Why am I not growing?”. This question rings to almost every artist when they believe they have a good product with their music, and most of the time they deserve that growth! I’ve heard too many people that 100% deserve growth, but what is preventing them? One thing I’ve learned and practiced recently that has caused me to grow statistically is providing value to an audience that is outside of your music. Let me explain:
Most of the time when an artist releases a new song, they just promote it by posting it on their Instagram stories and creating a few TikToks, but the fact is that every artist does this. This method of promotion, while still better than nothing, is simply not effective enough to bring in new fans. In order to truly see growth, you have to provide some sort of value that reels in an audience, whether that be other mediums of entertainment or creating tutorials. Creating this value makes the audience see you as something more than just an artist.
I recently started creating YouTube tutorials on FL Studio starting in March, and seeing that progression within my subscribers and ultimately my streams is one of the most satisfying feelings knowing that I created my own fanbase. Another way to solidify your fanbase is to create an interactive environment around them, like an Instagram groupchat or Discord server. This sensation of including your fans in something you created makes them more invested in you as a person, which ultimately leads to more investment into your art. Interacting with your supporters is essential starting out. You are not at that level where you can get away with acting mysterious (just yet). Sure my YouTube tutorials would’ve definitely brought some attention to my music, but creating that interactive environment through my server made the listeners stay. With only around 60 members in my Discord server at the time of June 2023, all 4 songs on my EP had over 100 streams in just a month and a half, which would have absolutely not been possible without me not starting to create value for new people. Help out the people helping you, and watch your stats flourish.
