KOI SHOWS OFF ON HIS NEWEST SINGLE “DEADSTOCK”
A celebration of success - that’s the phrase that comes most to mind while listening to this new Koi Single. As per usual, the world from Koi’s perspective looks a bit bitter-sweet. From the lavish Los Angeles homes, to the exclusive “deadstock” items he collects, you would think that the California creative would have no worries left to tell about, but as you might have already guessed, not all is as it seems for Koi. Don’t get it twisted though, splurging his finances on the finer things is a typical theme in Koi’s discography, but this track seems to address everything in a more positive manner than usual, even directly addressing an old fling by essentially expressing that things have gotten even better in spite of the heartbreak. This single comes in anticipation of Koi’s next full length project, which he’s teased about via social media without really giving much clue as to what we can expect, however it should be noted that his production choices lately have leaned into a more (for lack of a better word) soulful place. Maybe this album will move away from the “pluggnb” style that populated a majority of his previous record, in favor of soul samples and other vocal samples in general. DeadStock sounds like a sonic victory lap for Koi, and we can’t wait to see where it leads us next!
