STR REVIEW: BRANDON SEA - LONER

IJR

I came across Brandon Sea (@brandonseaa) about a year ago thanks to his break-out single “Poison,” and since then the artist has released a short string of tracks and visuals that have put him further and further into the spotlight. Most recently Brandon Sea released a single titled “Loner,” coming in at just over two minutes, this track sees Brandon return to a more melodic approach that in my opinion suits him best. On Loner we hear Brandon doing what he does best, coming hard with a hook that’s both memorable, and energetic with a delivery that is somewhat aggressive. Now despite my bias towards the more melodic stylistic approach, it’s the vocals themselves where I’m a bit split on, because while on the one hand, I see what was being attempted, and just how passionate the vocal performance itself is, but upon re-listening, I found myself feeling tired of the specific tone that the vocals fall under. My biggest gripe with this song is that it feels like I’m listening to one long chorus, barely giving any time for tonal contrast. Production-wise, I think the beat selection is fine, it does its job and allows Brandon to do his thing without getting in the way, but not much else. Looking back at the production quality that’s been featured in the past through Brandon’s catalog, especially with the level that a song like “VISA” is at, it’s really no fair comparison. However it’s not all bad news, as I found myself really enjoying the bridge portion, especially Brandon’s vocal delivery, I think he kills that section and sort of saves this track for me. Brandon Sea is truly one of my favorite artists in the underground at this very moment, and I love to see all the progress he’s made, especially looking at the way he carries himself, and the way he kills his rollouts visually, so please go support the creative if you don’t already! If you’ve heard Loner already, did you enjoy it? Do you agree with the points I made? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
