LIL SHINE’S “Lovesick” IS A SHORT AND SWEET BEAUTY

Ever since my friend put me onto Lil Shine, I’ve been addicted to his passionate delivery and lush production. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lil Shine has been a force to reckon with. His own spin on Plugg and PluggNB has proven to be influential within the underground scene, and with his newest release, it is safe to say that Shine’s popularity is only going to rise. Similar to Shine’s previous album “Losing Myself”, “Lovesick” expands upon the lush and luxuriant production by adding an almost cinematic and organic feel to it. The intro song “No More Rainy Days” starts out with a beautiful organization of leads, pianos, and guitars while Shine reminisces on past experiences, leading into the next song “Mistakes”, which is a bittersweet head-nodder. Fast, rumbling drums with arpeggiated melodies makes the perfect soundscape for Shine to sing his heart out. Shine’s voice is an instantly recognizable one, with his youthful tone and softer, yet powerful delivery. Another highlight is “Jeans Soaked”, starting out with a cinematic and dark intro with low strings and almost haunting horns, quickly tapestopping into the full beat, which Shine just absolutely slides over the full and grand production. It’s honestly impressive how anyone could find room to place themselves inside of a beat like this, but Shine makes it work in the best way possible. The soundscape of this project is beautiful and thematic, oftentimes with the same types of instruments played in every instrumental, but it never gets old. Shine’s passionate delivery is infectious, and there’s no way it could grow old. If anyone is looking for a soul-filling and tasteful, almost artsy project, this is right down your alley.
