Koi proves that he has no intentions of slowing down

I’ve been bumping so much of Koi’s (@ripcoye) music lately. It's insane, because it seems like the moment that you catch up, and fully come to appreciate the last project, he’s already working on the next one. With his last album, “If anything,” he chose to take on yet another style of production (as he’s been doing more of lately) therefore putting a greater focus on his writing structure, and the way that he adapts to these different styles. I say all that, to say that Koi’s been keeping it fresh, because while I do enjoy his lyrics and overall subject matter, I can see how his music could get stale for more casual listeners. Anyway, with today’s release, Koi just proves that he has no intentions of slowing down, announcing that this song, “Nick Sabans,” is the first single for his next album (which at the time of writing has no title or release date attached to it).

Nick Sabans feels like Koi’s most refreshing track in a long time, truly. From the fast paced instrumental, to the Voda Fuji feature, this track is one that’s gonna stick around my rotation for a while. It’s quite interesting the approach that Koi’s taken for this single given his discography, because even lyrical content has taken a bit of a shift. Koi just sounds overall hungrier on this one, almost  like he has more to lose. Koi ditches a lot of his material name drops, and romantic angles in favor of bringing up his best efforts to prosper in this material driven world. It’s not a super deep song, but the few things that he does touch up on sorta give me a new perspective of Koi, a more relatable one, because at the end of the day we all just want to make something great of ourselves. The Voda Fuji feature was cool too, granted, Voda and Koi are some of my favorites out right now, but his role on the track, while limited, is a pretty straightforward one, taking on a pretty smooth flow and deep cadence that’s drenched in his signature vocal processing effects. Finally, I really enjoyed this as a sort of opener for Koi’s new project, and i’m pretty curious what the sound of this project’s going to be like, but if it’s anything like Nick Saban, then i’m sure it’s gonna be pretty fire.
