DIGITAL MUSIC TAKES A NEW LIFE
For a few years now I’ve been aware of the online collective known as “OseanWorld,” a team of musicians and digital artists pushing the boundaries, and quietly taking over both the digital and physical space. Now OseanWorld is by no means the first online collective, but the thing that separates this team from the rest of the internet artists is… well a bit hard to explain. A few months ago you might have heard about a scandal within the music industry that was caused by the signing of a so-called “A.I rapper,” who people didn’t take too kindly to, and while the A.I has no affiliation with OseanWorld, I was instantly reminded of the collective. As I said OseaWorld consists of music and digital art so naturally, they combined those two elements in the best way possible, birthing various music projects with “vocaloids” in the spotlight, with their most popular one being known as Yameii. What’s a Vocaloid you ask? Well, think of it as a CGI-based character that uses advanced text-to-speech tools to produce human-like vocals. Over the last year or so, the group has really risen from the depths of obscurity, thanks to their incredibly unique sound, and a little help from the already popular group founders, Deko, and OG Parker, who usually undertake the production for the Vocaloid characters. The ambition of the OseanWorld is truly unmatched, and you can see that when you visit their website, linking to their manga series, their many art projects, and a whole bunch of lore elements, only known by curious fans who take the time to find the hidden puzzle pieces. Last month OseanWorld was invited to Complexcon where they collaborated with rapper 21 Savage and audio product manufacturer Bose in showcasing digital art meeting music. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of the force that is OseanWorld, but considering the rate at which they earn notoriety, I bet you’ll know all about them real soon!
