TONY22 COMES BACK WITH A MISSION ON HIS LATEST RELEASE “SAFE PLACE”
Today I wanna put you guys on to a single from an artist that I discovered recently, who goes by the name of Tony22 (@tonyturtl3). I was absolutely charmed when I came across Tony’s latest single “safe place,” a sugary sweet hyperpop track that has taken on a life of its own thanks to the internet, becoming pretty popular for its “comfort song” like qualities. On this song Tony22 completely leans into the hyperpop aesthetic, complete with a vocal that is pitched high and bitcrushed, giving the soft sounding vocal a slightly slightly distorted edge. I know what you’re thinking, “oh great, another hyperpop kid that thinks they can just phone in a little pitched up hook over an edm beat. Oh and it's probably gonna go viral without putting in the effort,” and to that I say, BLASPHEMY! All seriousness though, the charm of this track is in part thanks to its writing, with its lines about using childhood coping mechanisms to avoid feeling the pressures of life. Now this track did go viral in part thanks to tiktok, and the autistic community, who’s expressed a crazy amount of relatability to it. Overall, I love this track, I think it’s a really sweet and vulnerable sounding tune that isn’t overly complicated, and that’s one factor that works in its favor. I love it, and the fact that this has become an homage to stuffies, and adventure time makes it all the better, go stream!
